| Let that sink in for a second.
Even with the current fire danger and the statewide burn ban in place, we’re still seeing fires start from outdoor burning. It doesn’t take much right now—dry conditions, low humidity, and a little wind can turn a small fire into a fast-moving problem in minutes.
Most of these fires are preventable.
We get it—everyone thinks their fire will be the one that stays under control. But as you can see, that’s not always how it plays out.
🚫 A reminder: A statewide burn ban is currently in effect. All outdoor burning is prohibited, and all burn permits are suspended.
🚫 Additionally, the Clay County Fire Marshal has issued a local burn ban. This includes burn barrels, campfires, and any and all outdoor burning not otherwise covered under the NC Forest Service ban.
⚠️ Violating the burn ban can result in a $100 fine plus court costs (typically around $180), AND you may be held financially responsible for the full cost of fire suppression—which can quickly add up to thousands of dollars.
Our crews will continue to respond—day or night—but we need your help to keep these calls from happening in the first place.
Don't be like Joey, please do not burn. |
