| Clay County EMS staffs two ambulances to serve our community, and with two patients requiring care, all of the county’s available EMS transport resources were committed to a single incident.
But this picture also shows what makes a small community work.
Our friends at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office stepped up in force to help wherever they could. Many of our deputies either started their public-safety careers as volunteer firefighters or continue to volunteer with the fire department today. That experience, combined with the close working relationship between our agencies, means that when additional hands are needed, we don’t have to ask twice.
In larger communities, there may be another ambulance, another engine, or another crew just a few minutes away. Here, we rely heavily on cooperation, mutual aid, and people willing to step outside of their normal role to help their neighbors when resources are stretched.
Fire, EMS, law enforcement, air medical, and our neighboring agencies may wear different uniforms and have different responsibilities, but ultimately we all have the same mission: taking care of Clay County.
We’re incredibly fortunate to have public-safety agencies that work so well together—and people who never hesitate to lend a hand when our community needs them. |
