With the time change now behind us, it’s a great time to make sure your smoke detectors are ready to protect your home.

Many people use the time change as a reminder to replace the batteries in their smoke alarms and test them to make sure they’re working properly.

Clay County Fire & Rescue recommends:
• Replace the batteries in every smoke alarm in your home
• Press the test button to make sure each alarm works (you should also be doing this every month)
• Make sure you have smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of your home
• Replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old or older

Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire by about half, but only if they have power and are working properly.

Take a few minutes today to check yours — it’s one of the easiest ways to keep your family safe. 🚒
