| Clay County Fire & Rescue was dispatched to an RV fire in the 5000 block of Old Highway 64 East in the Shooting Creek Fire District. Engine 6, Tender 6, Tender 1, Rescue 1, and Command 1 responded to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found the RV fully involved and the RV was a total loss. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. It’s important to remember that recreational vehicles are not constructed to the same building standards as traditional homes or even manufactured housing. Due to their lightweight materials and compact layouts, RVs can burn much hotter and significantly faster, allowing fire conditions to deteriorate rapidly. If you are using an RV make sure it is equipped with properly functioning smoke detectors, just as you would in your home. Test them regularly, replace batteries as needed, and have an evacuation plan in place. Early detection and quick action can make all the difference. |
